Dr. Pramiti Sarker, Ph.D., AEP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at West Virginia University. Her research advances occupational ergonomics to improve employee well-being, optimize performance, and mitigate physical and mental workload in complex work environments. Excessive workload can contribute to neuromusculoskeletal disorders, reduce worker performance, and increase employer costs. To address these challenges, Dr. Sarker identifies sources of workload strain and develops, evaluates, and implements evidence-based ergonomic solutions that improve job quality, support long-term career sustainability, and enhance workplace safety.

Research Interests

Dr. Sarker’s research centers on interdisciplinary approaches in:

  • Occupational Ergonomics: Identification and mitigation of injury risk factors in real-world tasks
  • Workload Assessment: Multi-modal evaluation of physical and cognitive demands
  • Biomechanical Analysis: Quantifying movement, posture, and force-related exposure
  • Ergonomic Intervention Design: Developing and testing evidence-based solutions for safer work
  • Human-Centered Systems Engineering: Integrating human factors into workplace and process design
